New Music, Tutorial, Fixes
Tutorial Level
For a while we've been getting feedback that the game is too difficult to get into for new players. Our aim has always been to provide something new for players of Super- and Open Hexagon, but we'd also like for people who haven't played those games to not feel completely overwhelmed when playing Heptagon for the first time. With this update, we've added a tutorial with escalating levels of difficulty, including stages that don't feature any perspective transitions at all, which we think should help smooth the learning curve.
Unfortunately this means that if you are already an avid player, there is not going to be much new content for you in this update. We promise to remedy this in the next update, which should add the last two (hardest) levels!
New Music by +TEK
We've got a cool new soundtrack made by the awesome +TEK (whose Soundcloud you can find here). Spectra and Milky Ways are being replaced by brand new tracks and Dr Finkel Fracken is being replaced by Disco Necropolis.
(The version we use in-game has a bit less xylophone)
Let us know what you think about the new music and which of the new tracks you prefer (or don't prefer) to the old.
Also, since we now have the rights to use the music that's in the game, we can enable donations on itch. If you want to give us money, you might as well just wait to get the full game on Steam when it releases (hopefully in another month or so). But if you are feeling particularly generous for some reason, then it is appreciated :)
Level Rearrangement
The tutorial level has taken the slot of Level 1, which means all the other levels have been pushed up one slot. So what was called Level 1 is now Level 2 (and has also had its music changed, and the tutorial segment shortened). Level 2 is now called Level 3, and so on.
In this update, Levels 1,2 and 5 (new names) are playable. We might change this to 1,2 and 3 in a few days when the new track to replace Milky Ways is finished.
Also, launching this version will wipe any high scores and settings preferences you have saved. So if you believe you have any world records, you'd better screenshot them now...
Fixes
- Binding controls to mouse buttons should work correctly
- Several problems to do with 'invert control' settings are now solved
- The timing of when the controls are inverted after a perspective transition, if you have enabled this setting, has changed slightly. I can't tell if it feels horrible now, because this setting always feels horrible to me. I'll have to get feedback from players that actually use it on whether or not it's good now.
- Restart button not rebinding on Level 4 fixed
- Included a 32-bit version of the game, as requested by some players
